Colorado Wildfire Mitigation

Colorado residents may earn a discount on their homeowners policy for taking certain wildfire-mitigation measures

How can you qualify for a wildfire mitigation discount in Colorado?

Progressive offers two levels of mitigation discount for both properties and communities who have taken mitigation actions:

1. Property-specific mitigation

Property-specific mitigation is a science-based mitigation action as demonstrated by the "Wildfire Mitigation Home" designation from the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety or by a similar mitigation program that includes a verification and certification proves. These mitigation actions may include putting in place measures such as:

  • Non-combustible five-foot area around the structure
  • Class A roof
  • Non-combustible gutters and downspouts
  • Ember resistant vents
  • 6-inches of non-combustible clearance at the base of exterior walls
  • Verification through a Wildfire Prepared Home designation or similar

2. Community-level mitigation

Community-level mitigation is a science-based mitigation action as demonstrated by a community or neighborhood level designation or certification or as undertaken by a government entity. These mitigation actions include participating in measures such as:

  • Community wildfire mitigation program that includes an inspection and certification
  • Firewise USA Recognition Program
  • IBHS Wildfire Prepared Neighborhood standards

How much is the wildfire mitigation discount in Colorado?

You may qualify for up to a 15% discount for property-specific mitigation measures. For community-level wildfire mitigation actions, you may receive up to a 5% discount. You may qualify for both discounts. The discount percentage is applied to the calculated wildfire-related premium amount and not to the total policy premium.
